Naturally Boulder

Naturally Boulder a Natural Fit for ROOT

Challenge

Prior to working with ROOT, Naturally Boulder (now Naturally Colorado) hadn’t done much in the way of PR, despite the fact that the total economic impact of the natural and organic industry in Colorado totaled $3.1 billion in 2019, and they were the main Colorado organization supporting that industry. Their events needed to sell more tickets, they needed to continue to grow, and their leaders and board members deserved to be known as the incredible thought leaders they are.

Results

ROOT was able to secure dozens of meaningful and impactful stories highlighting Naturally Boulder, its leadership team and its members over the years. A few examples:

• CNBC did a national TV segment profiling the organization, “Boulder, a natural food haven, fosters a new generation of wellness entrepreneurs.”
• Trade publications in the natural space caught on, building awareness and legitimacy for Naturally Boulder and its spinoff organizations in other cities. Trade coverage included in New Hope Network, Food Industry Executive, Grocery Dive
• Naturally Boulder (finally!) gained more recognition in its own backyard. Top local hits included 5280’s “Have You Tasted These 3 Award-Winning Colorado-Made Products”, Westword’s “Adaptogenic Mushroom Coffee Brand Wins This Year’s Pitch Slam,”, 303 Magazine’s “Boulder’s Shark Tank Style Event Competition Event Goes Virtual,” a Fox31 segment featuring the 2020 Pitch Slam winner, and KDVR TV segment’s “Colorado’s own version of Shark Tank for all things natural and organic.”
• When the pitch slam went virtual, ROOT organized PR boxes for more than a dozen top regional influencers in the f&b and sustainability community that would be showcased during the Pitch Slam. This effort drove ticket sales for the event, while allowing writers to experience the products themselves and encourage them to pursue a story.

Solution

ROOT was hired in 2020, one month before Naturally Boulder’s annual signature Pitch Slam event was being moved online for the first time in 15 years due to COVID. ROOT continued to handle PR for Naturally Boulder for a few years, helping spread the word about changes and additions to their signature events, their new executive directors, and landing thought leadership pieces about the growing industry.

In Their Own Words:

“I have known and worked with Kuvy Ax for 15 years. During that time I have seen her and the team at ROOT do exceptional work for their clients. Naturally Boulder has benefited greatly from ROOT’s experience and approach to supporting their clients. As a non-profit we often needed to stretch our dollars and ROOT always found a way to do great work within our budget. The landscape has shifted so much over the past 15 years when it comes to PR and Communications so finding the right partner that stays current and on top of all the new tools available is very important. I can highly recommend the ROOT team for all your marketing and communications needs – you won’t be disappointed!”

Flanagan Farm

We had a good gut feeling about this one. Flanagan Farm was getting ready to bring its minimally processed, probiotic-rich superfood to the masses, launching the country’s most affordable organic sauerkraut. However, there was no website, no social media, no media assets - a simple “Flanagan Farm” Google search led to wedding venues. ROOT had to start from ground zero in helping Flanagan Farm make a name – and online presence – for itself.
