Sea the Difference: Mind Blown Makes Waves with Media Relations

Challenge

Mind Blown by The Plant Based Seafood Co. was looking to make a splash and stand out in the competitive plant-based seafood industry. ROOT was tasked with landing top-tier media placements to assist Mind Blown’s growth strategy of getting into new retail channels and showcasing their celebrity chef investors.

Results

In just nine months, ROOT secured 51 pieces of coverage with a potential readership of 619 million and nearly 2,300 social shares. Top-tier compelling placements included Men’s Health print feature, an online interview with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Forbes, Fast Company, Fox News, a TV segment with Good Day D.C. and dozens of other outlets. Mind Blown did enter five new retail markets, thanks in part to growing buzz around their products.

ROOT won a Gold Pick PRSA award for their work on Mind Blown for “earned media relations” in the consumer products/packaged goods category.

Solution

ROOT developed laser-focused key messaging and a media relations plan that largely concentrated on media outlets that Mind Blown’s target audience – home cooks, investors and b2c retailers – read and are influenced by. After creating targeted media lists and sending personalized pitches, ROOT kicked off its Mind Blown campaign by sending out sample requests to top tier media.

ROOT also leveraged the celebrity chefs that were huge fans of Mind Blown for media opportunities. For example, ROOT set up and managed an interview between Forbes and Chef Tom Colicchio about the brand, as well as secured Chef Spike Mendelsohn on a Good Day D.C. segment – a top target market for Mind Blown.

In Their Own Words

“Teaming up with Kuvy and Emily from ROOT Marketing & PR was a wonderful experience. Their creativity, compelling pitches, and unwavering commitment significantly elevated our plant-based seafood company’s visibility and success during our collaboration. With their expert guidance, we achieved impressive media coverage, secured impactful features, and reached new heights in our industry.”
